---- — SOUTH CAROLINA — James C. Baldwin (nicknamed Sonny), born in Walnut Ridge, Ark., on Aug. 13, 1933, went home to be with our heavenly Father, our Lord Jesus Christ, on Jan. 28, 2013.
Jim moved to the Detroit area as a young man and established himself as an honest and forthright builder and developer in Rochester for over 40 years. He also managed the family’s medicine company, Knorr’s Green Drops, for many years.
He served as president of the Republican Club of Oakland County, chairman of the Board of Review for Avon Township and held many other leadership positions throughout his career. The friendships that he made with other businessmen in the Rochester area were very important to him and gave him many great memories and joy.
The most important leadership position Jim held was for his family. He was a good provider and teacher who loved The Lord. He continually emphasized the importance of being honest and having what he called “sticktuitivness” with his children and grandchildren.
Jim will be remembered as a man of his word. He helped many people throughout his life. He blessed everyone he met with his humor and jokes and shared Christ’s love with so many.
Jim was a Michigan Wolverines fan and he will be remembered by many for his wit and banter with rival sports fans.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan (Baldwin) Gillett and her husband, Curt Gillett.
Jim is survived by the love of his life for 54 years, Donna Mae (Knorr) Baldwin; daughter, Lisa Baldwin and her son, Naji Baldwin-Shahin; son, Richard Baldwin and his wife, Michelle (Atkinson) Baldwin and their children, Kyle, Davis and Lucy Baldwin; Calvin and Jamie Gillett, sons of Susan and Curt Gillett; and sister, Betty Hill.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at noon, at Omena Hillcrest Cemetery, followed by a celebration of Jim’s life with family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the James C. Baldwin memorial fund at Macedonia Evangelical Lutheran Church, 49 Macedonia Church Road, Prosperity, South Carolina 29127; (803) 364-3786. Donations will be used to help others in need.
