George was born on March 6, 1918, in Williamsburg, to the late Clarence and Erma (Beckwith) Selkirk. He married the love of his life, Lorraine "Peg" Brown, on Nov. 3, 1945, in Traverse City, at Central United Methodist Church.

George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945, honorably earning the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Following his time in service he became employed as a maintenance man for Munson Medical Center, where he was a valued employee until his retirement.

George was a lifelong member and past Master of the East Bay #264 Masonic Lodge.

George attended Williamsburg United Methodist Church with his family, where he enjoyed spending time with his church family for breakfast and golf outings.

A player on the school basketball team began George's enjoyment of sports and an active lifestyle of gardening, golfing, daily walks or bike rides. He was the handyman who could fix anything that was broken.

The highlight of George's life was living on Elk Lake, where he enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and neighbors.
