Marion Violet Ham

TRAVERSE CITY — Marion Violet Ham, 90, of Williamsburg and Trenton, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City.

Marion was born on the dairy farm in Ellice Township, Ontario, Canada, on June 17, 1922, to Jesse and Rebecca (Mathison) Skinner. On March 13, 1943, she entered into marriage with Victor Ham, who preceded her in death.

Marion and Victor made their home in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, before moving to Detroit with their daughters. While in Detroit their son was born. They then moved to Trenton and Marion was a proud stay-at-home mom of three ... always there for her family.

Marion was a voracious reader and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting, giving away most of the items she made. She also enjoyed traveling.

She could often be found watching her favorite Detroit Red Wings, Tigers and Lions. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR.

Marion was happiest taking care of her family and visiting with friends and family.

She will be remembered as a kind, caring compassionate person - the best mom and grandma ever. A quiet, gentle friend, she never had a bad word to say about anyone.

Marion is survived by her daughters, Margaret Laws, of Tennessee, and Frances (Terry) Butler, of Williamsburg; one son, John Ham, of Trenton; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; the "apple of her eye," great-great-granddaughter, Gabriella Sue Johnson; as well as many other family members and friends. She is also survived by her faithful companion, Scrappy.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; brother, Orville Skinner; sister, Mae Simpson; twin grandsons, Mark and Michael Storms; and son-in-law, Vernon Laws.

Per Marion's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
