TRAVERSE CITY — Edith E. Ackerman, 88, of Traverse City, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 24, 2013. She was born on Aug. 28, 1924, in Kingsley, to Clinton and Sylvia (Koch) Goff.
Edith was an example of Christ in her daily living. Her hospitality was an open door to all who passed by. She was an amazing strength for her children and grandchildren. She loved to entertain and always had homemade cinnamon rolls and fresh strawberry shortcake to serve.
She raised four foster children and worked with physically challenged children. Edith loved to make stuffed animals and special gifts for her grandchildren, and she loved to crochet. She always put others first.
Edith is survived by her children, Janet (Russell) Sensenbaugh, Vernon (Kathleen) Ackerman and Linda (Keith) Christopher; a sister, Velma Wiebe; and two brothers, Lyle (Evelyn) Goff and Lowell (Carolyn) Goff. She had six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Claire Ackerman; infant son, Carl; sisters, Elsie Ayers and Evelyn Riley; and brothers, Wesley Goff and infant brother, Earl.
A memorial service is scheduled for June 14, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Nazarene, 1023 Division St., Traverse City, MI.
