TRAVERSE CITY — Jacquelyn Lee Zimmerman passed away on April 15, 2014, at the age of 82. She was the eldest of four daughters born to Larry and Marjorie Bredahl in Fremont and shared a love of cardinals with her mother. She spent many summers as a child on her grandmother’s farm in Manton and always referred to those summers as wonderful.
She married John Zimmerman on Jan. 5, 1952, and they spent 62 years together raising seven children, Diana (Dean) Mack, of Traverse City, David, of California, Brian (Renee), of Traverse City, Jon and his partner, Tom Wahl, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Matthew, of Traverse City, and Kristin Zimmerman (Christopher Green), of New Baltimore. She is also remembered by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tamara in 2007 and is survived by her sister, Joan, of Sun City, Calif.
Jacque, on a violin scholarship from Sexton High School in Lansing, and her husband attended Michigan State University and were known to pile all seven kids into the family van to go to see a football game each fall.
She and John own Zimmerman Landscaping Inc., where she kept the books, paid the bills and kept the finances running smoothly.
She was a voracious reader who loved curling up with a good book or a challenging crossword puzzle with her cats by her side. She and John enjoyed camping and traveling to Green Valley, Ariz., each year, where they spent their winters with so many of their Traverse City friends. She also very much enjoyed time with friends over a “Jacque Margarita” at establishments across the country.
Jacque’s gift to all of us was in her numerous friendships and her unwavering desire to nurture and support children in need.
A memorial service will be held at St. Francis in the Valley Episcopal Church in Green Valley, Ariz., on April 17, 2014.
