GRAND BLANC — Roche Edward Featherstone, 76, passed away on April 6, 2014, at the Regional Medical Care Facility in Lapeer following a long illness. Roche was born in Mackinaw City on Aug. 6, 1937, to James and Dorothy Featherstone. The family moved to Flint in 1943, where Roche grew up.
He married the former Roberta Polidan, of Fenton, in 1960 and together they had two sons.
He moved his family to Traverse City in 1969 and was a partner with his brother, Robert, in Featherstone Brothers Electric Company for several years. Roberta was a licensed nurse and worked at Munson Medical Center during their residency in Traverse City. The family later moved to Grand Blanc in 1985, where he worked as an electrician for the IBEW until his retirement.
Roche was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta in 1991; both parents; and two nephews, Scott and Rick Blackmer.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Rocky (Leslie) Featherstone and Robert James Featherstone, both of Traverse City; two grandsons, Nicolas and Zachary; and two granddaughters, Taylor and Sydney. Also surviving are three sisters, Janet Blackmer, of Flint, Carolyn Lortz (“Pete”), of Fenton, and Beverly LaZar, of Glendale, Ariz.; two brothers, Robert (Peggy), of Traverse City, and James (Anne) of Dallas, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place at Roche’s request. A memorial service for Roche will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Hill Road in Grand Blanc on Saturday, May 17, 2014, with visitation at 11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at noon.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Lapeer Regional Medical Care Facility in Lapeer.
