TRAVERSE CITY — Donald Edwin Visser of Traverse City, formerly of Flushing, age 79, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City with his family by his side.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Resurrection Reformed Church, 5225 Calkins Rd., Flint, Mich. Rev. Doug Kiel will officiate. Burial will be at Imlay Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice House, 450 Brook St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
Donald was born in Burton, Mich. on Jan. 4, 1935, the son of John and Alice (Hoort) Visser. He married Lorraine Louwsma on Aug. 18, 1954, in Imlay City, Mich. Don founded and owned Action Electric in Flushing, Mich. for 35 years and was a member of both the Flint Electrical Contractors Association as well as the National Electrical Contractors Association, he very much enjoyed the company of his fellow contractors as well as the annual conventions.
He was an active member of Resurrection Reformed Church in Flint, until moving to Traverse City in 2013 to be near his family. Don enjoyed spending his winters in Nokomis, Fla. with his wife, Lorraine at Kings Gate. He was an avid golfer who loved playing the game at courses around the country, he especially enjoyed his weekly games with his “Golf Buddies” at Flushing Valley Country Club.
Don and his family spent many summer weekends camping and boating together in Northern Michigan. He never missed his children’s sporting events and together with his wife was an enthusiastic Tigers and Red Wings fan.
Don loved spoiling his grand and great-grandchildren, as well as his much loved dog, Penny. He will be missed dearly.
Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lorraine Visser; daughter, Judith (William) McCaw; grandchildren, Lisa (Nikhil) Bagadia, David (Kristie) McCaw, Jason (Melissa) Visser, Justin Visser; great-grandchildren, Liam and Connor McCaw, Avner and Isla Bagadia; siblings, Clarence Visser, Aleta (Lloyd) Whittaker, Paul (Margaret) Visser, Robert (Newana) Visser, David (Beverly) Visser, Kenneth (Nancy) Visser, Ray (Suzanne) Visser and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved son, Russell Visser; brothers, Henry, John, Frank Visser; and sister, Grace Van Dyke.
