---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Arthur Schwanke, 79, of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Munson Medical Center.
Arthur was born on April 3, 1934, in Yuba, the son of Arthur and Cecilia (Anse) Schwanke. He was married to Judith E. Bergey, who preceded him in death in 2011.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army for eight years during the Korean War.
He worked for 15 years at the Record-Eagle as well as a tobacco, cherry and apple farmer.
Arthur enjoyed fishing and bowling. He also loved playing euchre and often played in tournaments.
Arthur is survived by his two children, Dawn Zimmerman and Duane (Anne) Schwanke; two sisters, Suzanne Traylor and Shirley Nichols; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Arthur was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Clifford Gould, Chester, Jerry, Julius and Lawrence Schwanke; and a sister, Mildred Barrera.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 11 a.m., until the start of the noon funeral service, at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. Burial will follow at Kateri Tekakwitha Cemetery in Peshawbestown. The Rev. Tom John will officiate.
