---- — WILLIAMSBURG — Terrance Gary Buyze was born in Grand Rapids on Sept. 30, 1950, and passed away on Oct. 2, 2013.
Terry graduated from Mancelona High School in 1968.
He married Cheryl (Breithaupt) Buyze on April 3, 1971, and served in the United States Navy for six years.
Terry and Cheryl returned to Traverse City, where Terry functioned in several occupations including electronics technician, oil field laborer and business owner of Traverse Casing Co., several insurance and investment businesses and owner of Senior Security, Inc. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and was always looking for his next opportunity to create employment for himself and others.
Terry had served as an elder and was an usher at Trinity Lutheran Church. He fully supported Trinity Lutheran Christian Day School and coached track and basketball for the elementary students. He was active as a volunteer and blood donor in this community.
Terry embraced life to the fullest and loved learning new things. He lived a selfless life and loved to give of his time and talents in ways that would help others. He was a man of integrity and led by example with a manner of living that demonstrated his own moral code. Terry’s faith sustained him through many times of change and struggle. Many lives were touched because of his willingness to share his spiritual journey that has now brought him into his eternal place of victory.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl, of Traverse City; and their three sons, Jesse and Becky (Davidson) Buyze, of Traverse City, Scott and Andrea (Marnett) Buyze, of Grand Rapids, and Kevin Buyze, of Traverse City. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Tianna Holt, Brayden Buyze, Solomon Buyze and Sheynan Buyze. Terry was one of four children born to Adrian and Jean (Bock) Buyze. He is survived by his mother, Jean Buyze; and his two brothers and two sisters, Adrian “Sonny” Buyze and his wife, Jessie, of Oregon, Randy and Mary (Swikoski) Buyze, of Mancelona, Ginny Czarnecki, of Oregon, and Amy and Larry Jones, of Coldwater. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Adrian Cornel Buyze.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, at 3 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Robert Zagore will officiate. Full military honors will follow under the auspices of the VFW Cherryland Post #2780. Cremation has taken place.
