TRAVERSE CITY — Oscar G. Thomas, 90, of Traverse City, passed away Sept. 22, 2013, happily reuniting with loved ones in Heaven.
He was born in Monroe Township, at home, on July 19, 1923. He was the son of Hershel “Pete” Thomas and Ellen Thomas (Watson).
Oscar was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Old Mission.
He was employed with Total Petroleum and Marathon Oil Company and also the Peninsula Fruit Exchange.
He loved his family and friends. He would help anyone with anything; he was a great man.
He loved traveling and camping with his beloved wife, Elaine. His passion was woodworking; he made pieces for a lot of us which now we can cherish in remembrance. Oscar also loved to work outside gardening, mowing and just keeping the yard beautiful.
He was preceded in death by parents, Hershel and Ellen Thomas; stepmother, Leah Thomas; dearest wife, Elaine (Weatherholt) Thomas; sons, Gerry and Tom; and brothers and sisters, Art, Ray, Harold, Mary and Delbert.
Oscar is survived by his son, Jon (Terri) Thomas; brothers, Orville (Reva) Thomas and Bruce (Jackie) Thomas; sister-in-law, Bobbie (Harold) Thomas; brother-in-law, Lee Carter (Mary); daughter-in-law, Dawn (Tom) Thomas; grandchildren, Jessica (Tom) Crowe, Jon Ashley (Rachel) Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Dan Culp, Cassy (Brad) Thomas-Jester and Chris Thomas; great-grandchildren, Cannon (son of Jessica and Tom) Thomas, Owen (son of Jeremy) Thomas, Jordan and Avery (children of Jon Ashley and Rachel) Thomas and Steven (son of Cassy and Brad) Thomas-Jester; numerous sisters-in-law and families; a brother-in-law and families on the Weatherholt side; and also many nieces and nephews, all of whom were dearly loved by OT.
Oscar will be sadly missed by all of us, but he is with Elaine and his sons he had dearly missed. He is at peace at last. We love you, Oscar “Papa”!!!!
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton, Traverse City.
