KALEVA — Charles “Pete” Walter Dinger, 72, of Kaleva, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at his home. He was born Aug. 30, 1941, in Traverse City, the son of Ray and Pauline (Holtzapple) Dinger.
Pete worked as a heavy equipment operator for Schworm, Inc. in Traverse City. He retired in 1995 after 35 years of employment.
He attended the Epworth United Methodist Church in Brethren.
In his spare time Pete loved to spend time outdoors. He farmed and raised beef cattle, and he loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed gardening with his wife. You could often find Pete outside with his dog, Tippy Ann, by his side.
On Oct. 20, 2001, Pete married Myla Buzzee, who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Todd Dinger, of Florida, and Shelly (Lee) Olschinsky, of Florida; his stepchildren, Gerald “Dusty” Reed (Chuck), of Kaleva, Shay (John Tolfree) Reed, of Westland, Robert “Bob” (Laura) Reed, of Alpena, Lynda (Scott) Cassiday, of Midland, James “Ed” (Janet) Reed, of Pinconning, Cari (Dom) Militello, of Essexville, and Nancy (Jim) Strait, of Memphis, Tenn.; his sisters, Betty Scott, of Thompsonville, Barbara Gannon, of Thompsonville, and Patti (Sam) Scarbrough, of Thompsonville; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his faithful four-legged companion of 18 years, Tippy Ann.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond Dinger; his sisters, Janet Oakley and Jeanette Volk; and his stillborn brother.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home, and from noon until time of services on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home.
