TRAVERSE CITY — Eleanor J. Holecheck, 78, of Traverse City, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at her home. She was born June 16, 1934, in Banks Township, to Henry and Gertrude (Vandenberg) Heeres.
On Oct. 31, 1953, she married Donald Holecheck in Grand Rapids. They made their home in Traverse City. Don died in 2006.
Eleanor worked at DeBruyn Concrete, Old Kent Bank and as a nurse’s aide.
She enjoyed taking care of children in the church nursery for 19 years. She also enjoyed canning, housekeeping, helping people and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
Surviving are her children, Ilean Holecheck, of Chandler, Ariz., and Ronald Holecheck, of Grawn; four grandchildren, Miranda Neihardt, LeeAnn Johansson, Justin Holecheck and Hope Holecheck; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Louise Potter, of Charlevoix, Esther (Richard) Jolliffe, of Charlevoix, Marvin (Charlotte) Heeres, of Ellsworth, and Janice Hartman, of Richland; sister-in-law, Carol Heeres, of Ellsworth; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Heeres and Robert Heeres.
Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth on Friday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth, with the Rev. Celia M. Hastings and the Rev. Becky Chamberlain officiating. Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery.
