BELLAIRE — Margaret E. Elzinga, 90, of Bellaire, formerly of Atwood, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. She was born Oct. 24, 1922, in Banks Township to Joseph and Winifred (VanderArk) Hoffman.
Following graduation from Ellsworth Community Schools, Margaret worked in Detroit as a “Rosie the Riveter” riveting nose cones for B17 bombers.
On Dec. 23, 1950, she married Martin Elzinga in Banks Township, and they made their home in Atwood.
Margaret enjoyed homemaking and working at Brumm’s Art Studio painting copper enamel birds for sculptures.
Following the death of her husband, Martin, in 2000, Margaret moved to Bellaire.
She was a member of the Atwood Christian Reformed Church.
Margaret is survived by her children, Alvin (Kimberly) Elzinga, of Manistee, and Coleen (Butch) Dewey, of Bellaire; and her grandchildren, Kyle and Kody Elzinga; in-laws, LaVerle Hoffman, Theola Elzinga, Ona Baker, Al and Claudette Elzinga and John and Phyliss Elzinga; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; her brother, Versil Hoffman; in-laws, Janet and Max Bolser, Hank Elzinga and Robert Baker.
Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth on Friday, April 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Atwood Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. David Kroon officiating. Burial will be in Atwood Cemetery.
