WASILLA, Alaska — Shirley Elizabeth Dresnek, formerly of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2013, in Wasilla, Alaska, surrounded by loved ones. She was born March 5, 1926, in Winooski, Vt.
She had been a resident of Alaska since September of 1968, having lived in Eagle River, Palmer, Lake Lucille, McGrath and Aniak before settling in Wasilla with her family.
Shirley had the most unwavering faith in her religion and firmly believed in eternal life.
Shirley is survived by a brother, Donald C. Barron; daughters, Shirley Smith, Marty Nekeferoff, Meri Stewart, Irene Kemp and Nancy (Craig) Henrionnet; sons, David (Jean) Dresnek, Michael (Marilyn) Dresnek, Steve Dresnek, Leo Dresnek Jr. and John (Kathleen) Dresnek; 24 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Dresnek Sr.; parents, Irene and David Barron; two brothers, Sanford and Roger; and four sisters, Ruth, Betty, Rita and Carol.
A funeral Mass and Celebration of Life reception was held April 3, 2013, at Sacred Heart Parish in Wasilla, Alaska, with Father Scott Garrett officiating. Burial will take place in June 2013 in Valley Memorial Park in Palmer, Alaska.
