TRAVERSE CITY — Nick Gasvoda, 63, of Traverse City, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 17, 2012, at Munson Medical Center. Nick was born on Dec. 29, 1948, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Paul and Rose Gasvoda, of Follansbee, W.Va.
Nick was employed as an equipment operator through the International Union of Operating Engineers for 33 years, retiring in 2006. He then moved to Traverse City and stayed busy buying and managing vacation rental properties.
Nick was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, fishing and landscaping. He truly appreciated all that nature had to offer. The weeks spent at “deer camp” with family and friends were the highlight of his year.
Nick touched a lot of lives and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy; his sons, Michael Gasvoda, of Carleton, Richard Gasvoda, of Follansbee, W.Va., and Gary Withun, of South Lyon; and grandchildren, Michael Gasvoda, Joseph Gasvoda, Curtis Harwood, Tessa Gasvoda, Courtney Withun and Jacob Withun. Nick leaves behind his siblings, Rose Herron, of Follansbee, W.Va., Theresa Sherwood, of Toronto, Ohio, and Paul Gasvoda, of Follansbee, W.Va.
Another sister, Rita Klash, preceded Nick in death.
A memorial gathering in honor of Nick will be held today, Oct. 20, 2012, from 2 until 4 p.m., at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
