Vera M. Sparks

TRAVERSE CITY — Vera May Sparks of Traverse City entered into eternal life on March 19, 2014 at the age of 83. She was born at home in Thompsonville April 27, 1930 to Clifford LeRoy and Elsie Mae(Rust) Wright.

Vera married Lyle Sparks Jr. in 1947, they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2002. Vera remarried in 2011 to LaVerne Meachum, they were married for three years. Together they enjoyed time dancing, camping and playing music.

Vera was very active in the First Christian Church in Traverse City, she taught Sunday school for 60 years, served as the Christian education director and children’s music director. Vera also was a choir member, president of the Men’s and Women’s Group and president of Christian Women United. She also coordinated the Community Meal program for the homeless for 20 years and organized a six week Lenten luncheon event for the community and two craft shows each year for local Church Missions. Vera enjoyed serving the Lord in any way that she could.

Vera is survived by LaVerne; brother, Willard (Velma) Wright; sister, Shirley Bryan; daughters, Diana Sparks and Darla Seigh of Traverse City; grandchildren, Paul (Jenny) Sparks, Crystal (Chris Sikkema) Seigh and Kelsi (Nate) Matthews; stepchildren, Ron(Yvonne) Meachum and Janie(Larry) Flees; step-grandchildren, Kimberly Peltier and Kristi(Christopher) Cuddington and step great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Kaiden, Ariah Sikkema, Isabelle Peltier and Sammy Cuddington, and 10 nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday March 25, at at The First Christian Church with Pastor Brett Spaulding officiating, visitation will be held one hour prior.

Memorials may be made to the Church or Cherryland Humane Society.
