FRANKFORT — Mary June (McLeod) Henry, 80, passed away on March 15, 2014, with her family gathered at her side.
June was born in McAlester, Okla., to Howard and Ruby McLeod on June 30, 1933. Her father was the Warden of the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. She graduated from McAlester High School in 1951 and attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas, for two years following high school. June married Fred Henry on Aug. 31, 1954, and moved to Detroit, where she was a homemaker and raised her family in Riverview, Mich. She later attended night school to continue her college education and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Eastern Michigan University in December 1972. She taught school in the Southgate, Mich., school district for the next 20 years, before retiring and splitting time in Stuart, Fla., and Frankfort, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother Maj. Gen. William McLeod.
She loved her family above all else.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many supportive neighbors and friends. She was always concerned about the welfare and comfort of others, even as she herself struggled with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.
