TRAVERSE CITY — Guy ‘Papa” Penick Jr., 79, of Traverse City died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1935, in Kosse, Texas, the son of Guy Sr. and Gladys (Roberson) Penick.
He had previously lived in Phoenix, Ariz., Lodi, Calif., and Marlin, Texas, where he married his wife, Martha, on March 3, 1959.
Papa served 32 years in the oil and gas industry. His favorite saying was “he worked from the crown to the ground,” as his job responsibilities covered all areas of the oil and gas industry.
He was a member of the Bay City Masonic Lodge; he was a 32 Degree Mason.
Papa loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
Papa is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha; brother, Johnny of New Mexico; his three sons, Roger (Brenda) of Traverse City, Wayne (Bil) of Georgia, and Roy (Renee) of Ohio; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Papa was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Bill, Raymond and Mike; and sister, Leona.
Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held.
