ELK RAPIDS — Roger Kline, 85, of Elk Rapids, passed away at home on March 4, 2014. He was born on Dec. 21, 1928, in Elk Rapids, to Andrew and Minnie (Witham) Kline.
Roger graduated from Elk Rapids High School.
He was married for over 30 years to Virginia Lee, who preceded him in death in 1999.
Roger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Elk Rapids AmVets Post 114 and the Carpenter’s Union.
For over 34 years Roger owned and operated many restaurants in the Elk Rapids area, such as Ye Old Coffee Shop.
Roger is survived by his stepson, Steven (Bonita) Thornton; grandchildren, Clinton, Casey, Imogene, Virginia Lee and Kyle; brother, Kenneth Kline; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Lee; stepson, Richard Hammons; four sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014, from 1 to 3 p.m., with a funeral service starting at 3 p.m., at Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids. Burial will take place Friday, May 30, at 1 p.m., at Maple Grove Cemetery, Elk Rapids.
