---- — LELAND — Richard R. Brant, of Leland, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013. He was born in 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Albert and Alice Brant. Dick grew up in Worthington, Ohio.
He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., in 1956, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was also a center on the football team.
As a young man Dick served in the U.S. Air Force, where he attained the rank of Captain during the Korean War.
Dick received his MBA in Michigan and certificates from the American Management Association.
He worked as a marketing manager in telecommunications and spent his career working with AT&T, where he earned three U.S. patents.
He was a member and past president of the Suttons Bay Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the board of the Leelanau Conservancy for nine years and served on the board of directors for two corporations. He was also on the finance committee at Leland Methodist Church.
Dick enjoyed football and golf. He studied the game of golf as a caddie and carried the bag for Sam Sneed. As a golfer Dick earned 11 trophies.
Dick is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 58 years, Helen Baukin Brant. He is also survived by his two sons, Mark (Tracy) Brant, of Bay Village, Ohio, and Eric (Kim) Brant, of Leland; his brother, Alan (Nancy) Brant, of Warren, Ohio; his grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Brant; and his nieces.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kristen Brant Hawkins.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Leland Methodist Church, 106 N. Fourth Street.
