TRAVERSE CITY — In celebration of a life joyfully lived, we remember Alice Nancy Welch. Alice was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Swartz Creek. She was the daughter of Willard Baker and Ruth Mosier and sister to Jim Baker, JoAnn Inman and David Schopieray.
Alice graduated from Mt. Carmel Mercy School of Nursing in Detroit in 1950 and selflessly nursed others for over 40 years while living in Livonia.
Alice married John “Jack” Francis Welch on June 21, 1951, and was a devoted wife and friend for 62 years.
Alice will always be loved and cherished in the hearts of her five children, Patrick, Ruth Ann, Michael, Joseph and John, for the happiest of childhoods, family reunion campouts on Lake Leelanau, bonfires, fruit pies, S’Mores, singing under the stars and so many great memories.
Alice spent her retirement years with Jack living in the Leelanau Peninsula and Traverse City, where her Couturier-Mosier roots began. Her charismatic fun-loving nature attracted lifelong friendships everywhere she lived.
Alice is survived by her husband, John; her children, Patrick Welch (Yvonne Navarro), Ruth Ann Petres, Michael (Grace Dovell-Welch), Joseph Welch (Susan Welch) and John Welch (Tracey Welch); five grandchildren, Heather Petres (Paul Kammer), Eric Petres (Renee Petres), Michael Welch, Scott Welch and Sarah Welch; one great-grandchild, Gavin Kammer; as well as countless friends and family.
We will forever mourn her loss but rejoice in a life lovingly and passionately lived.
