TRAVERSE CITY — John E. Kelly passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in Traverse City, at the age of 87. The son of the late Cornelius and Isabel (Skinner) Kelly, John was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Saginaw.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in the South Pacific and in the occupation of Japan.
He married Donna Ruth Hurry on June 18, 1949. She predeceased him on Aug. 31, 2002.
He worked as a trust officer with Second National Bank and Frankenmuth Bank and Trust prior to his retirement in 1990.
John had been a longtime, active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Saginaw until moving to Traverse City in 2006.
He is survived by his son, Thomas J. Kelly, of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Nancy D. Kelly, of Newaygo; daughter, Janice Kelly Meyer and her husband, J. Thomas Meyer, of Williamsburg, Mich.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, where his family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. today. The Rev. Bonnie Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be under the auspices of American Legion Post #439. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 7, 2014, at the Village at Bay Ridge, East, 3850 Scenic Ridge, Traverse City, MI.
