BEULAH — Joanne Barbara Beaver, 77, entered eternal peace on June 9, 2013, at Fenton Health Care Center in Fenton. She was born on Oct. 21, 1935, in Garden City, to Charles and Mabel Bylsma. Joanne grew up in Wayne. She graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in 1954. She worked as an administrative assistant for Tri-County Health Department in Benzie County, where she worked for over 20 years.
Joanne married James Woods in 1954 in Wayne. They were happily married for 19 years. While raising their three children together, they enjoyed square dancing, bowling, camping and Little League.
Joanne is survived by her son, Andrew Woods, of Newark, Del.; her daughter, Micki Baumgart, of Lakeland; her grandson, Curry Baumgart; her grandson, Jesse (Heather) Woods, their daughter, Kaylee Grace; Joanne’s great grandchild; and Jesse’s mother, Doris; Joanne is also survived by her brother, Roger (Ada) Bylsma; her brother, Harold (Elsie) Bylsma; her sister, Sondra (John) Cirisan; her sister, Angie Thayer; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mabel; her husband, James; her brothers, Anthony Castro and Jack Bylsma; her sister, Renie Wheeler; and her son, Jim Woods.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, June 14, 2013, at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Beulah, with the Reverend Skip Comer officiating. Interment will follow in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending or bringing a small, live plant that someone could take home and keep as a living memory of Joanne.
