TRAVERSE CITY — James Mels Anderson, 77, of Traverse City, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Tendercare of Leelanau surrounded by his loving family.
James was born May 5, 1936, in Detroit, the son of Mels R. Anderson and Myrtle (Bringedahl) Anderson. In 1972 in Traverse City he married Elizabeth A. (Lardie) Anderson who survives.
Together both Jim and Liz owned The Weaver House of Flowers for 42 years. Jim enjoyed playing tennis and working in his woodshop. He was proud of his walking sticks, lamps and folk art.
Jim was always available for a cup of coffee and a conversation. Above all, his family was the most important part of his life. His children will always appreciate their special days with him.
James is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his children, Dennis (Kim) Ritchey, Debra (Carl) Anderson-Hagstrom, Jana DuGuay, Mark (Jackie) Anderson, Jennifer Anderson, and Barbara Anderson; his grandchildren, Nicole Ritchey, Michael Ritchey, Sydney Richardson, Wesley Richardson, Jackson Anderson and Joseph DuGuay.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara Arnell and Larry Anderson; and a son-in-law, Fred DuGuay.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Suttons Bay, with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment in Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City, will be held at a future date. The Rev. Kent Lee will officiate.
