MANISTEE — Robert J. Knudstrup, 92, of Manistee passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2014, at West Shore Medical Center with his family at his side.
He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Manistee, the son of the late Paul ‘Pat’ and Dora (Johnson) Knudstrup. He was a graduate of Manistee High School — Class of 1938. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in both European and Pacific Theaters of Operations. He married Kathryn Taber on Aug. 16, 1947. She preceded him in death on May 29, 1979. On Oct. 3, 1987, he married Barbara (Stendel) Marsh.
He was retired having worked as a master electrician, first with Knudstrup Electric in Manistee and later as a union electrician.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara; by his children, John (Katherine) Knudstrup of Stafford, Va., Charles (Mary E.) Knudstrup of Lowell, Mich., William (Regina) Knudstrup of Ypsilanti, James (Teresa) Knudstrup of New Braunfels, Texas, Christopher ((Mary L.) Knudstrup of Mason, Mich., Thomas (Lori) Knudstrup of Appleton, Wis., and Mary Kay Knudstrup of Lowell, Mich.; by his stepdaughters, Mary (Dale) Steinberg of Wellston and Nancy (Robert) Peterson of Hartford, Vt.; and by 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Manistee. Final interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Manistee.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers those wanting to remember Bob consider a gift in his memory to either the Our Saviors Historical Society, the First Congregational Church of Manistee or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
