MAPLE FOREST TOWNSHIP — Mark Douglas Kniss, 58, of Maple Forest Township, passed away on Dec. 26, 2013.
Mark was born in Traverse City on Oct. 7, 1955, the son of Ruth (Doyle) and Royce Dale Kniss. He married the former Cathy Dasho on Nov. 1, 1986, at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Grayling.
Mark was retired from Weyerhauser and worked as a school bus driver for Crawford AuSable School District. He has been the Supervisor of Maple Forest Township since 1987.
Mark is remembered as a family man who was selfless and hard working. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and outdoor activities.
Mark is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cathy; daughter, Nicole (Roger) Gibson, of Fife Lake; sons, Dale (Chelsey) Kniss, of Brethren, and Jason (Kristin) Dasho of Frederic; grandchildren, Mark-Douglas Tyler Kniss, William Zachary Paulus, Alexis Therese Kniss, Cody Lane Russell Paulus, Kaylee Jo Kniss, Grace Hannah Marie Paulus, Jonah Benjamin Kniss, Walker LaRoi James Kniss, and Emma Lucille Dasho; great-granddaughter: Alexia Jane Kniss; parents, Royce and Ruth Kniss of Kalkaska; sisters, Karen (Harold) Rooksberry of Buckley, Vickie Kniss of South Boardman, and Jan Stewart of Manton; and brother, David (Mary) Kniss of Rapid River.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Todd Brunworth officiating.
