KINGSLEY — David “Dave” Gerard Shay, 51, of Kingsley, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 26, 2013, at Munson Medical Center.
Dave was born on March 7, 1962, in Saginaw, to Donald J. and Mary Lou (Tway) Shay. He married Nancy Jo Lappo-Schneider on the bridge over the pond in the yard of their Kingsley home on July 27, 1996.
Dave loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the Cherry Speedway and watching the races and Sunday football. Most of all he loved his family. He loved going on his daily walks with Nan and their dog, Maggie May.
Dave was a wonderful husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Surviving Dave are his wife, Nan; mother, Mary Lou; son, Dylan (Laurissa) Shay; stepchildren, Don (Val) Schneider, David Schneider and Dean Schneider; grandchildren, Madison Shay, Shannon Schneider and Joseph (Katie) Schneider; great-grandchildren, Dakari, Riley, Stormie and Ava Schneider; siblings, James (Marie) Shay, Donald (Suellen) Shay, Ellen (James) Sager, Kevin (Kelly) Shay, Lisa (Philip) Loesel, Brian (Suzan) Shay, Patrick (Stephanie) Shay and Melissa (John) LeRoux; siblings-in-law, Donald Lappo, Charlene Gleason, Pat (Larry) Jackson, Bobbie Whaley and Bud Willis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Donald; and sister-in-law, Doty Willis.
A memorial service for Dave will be held at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684.
