HOLT — Ruth G. Goodland, age 93, formerly of Traverse City, passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease on Dec. 22, 2013. She was born in Grand Rapids on Sept. 23, 1920, the daughter of Charles and Othilda VanLeeuwen.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Western Michigan University.
She married Donald Goodland on June 14, 1947. He preceded her in death in February of 2002.
Ruth spent most of her adult life in Traverse City, where she worked as a teacher.
She was an active member of the First Congregational Church and was a volunteer at the church thrift shop for many years. She also volunteered at Munson Medical Center. Shortly after her husband’s death she moved to the Lansing area to be closer to her daughter.
Ruth is survived by her son, Greg; daughter, Libby; two granddaughters, Kim and Laura; and three great-grandchildren.
Her body has been donated to the Michigan State University Department of Anatomy for medical research.
There will be no services.
