TRAVERSE CITY — Charles John Westcott Jr., 60, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at his home. He was born on June 26, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Charles John And Joyce Lorraine (Garetson) Westcott.
Chuck joined the U.S. Air Force in 1977 and was released from duty in 1980. He then joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1989 at the end of the first Persian Gulf War. He was a firefighter with the Reserves for 18 years.
He was formerly a volunteer firefighter with Blair and Garfield Townships. For a short time he was the fire chief at the Cherry Capital Airport. Chuck also worked in maintenance with the Grand Traverse Medical Care Facility and Bay Shore Maintenance.
He was a member of the AML and the Cherryland VFW Post #2780.
Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee (Clous) Westcott; they were married April 9, 1977, in Traverse City; his children, Carmin Potvin, of Interlochen, and Charles Russell Westcott, of Thompsonville; grandchildren, Kylie Potvin and Kasen Westcott; mother, Joyce Westcott, of Traverse City; sisters, Susan (Larry) Phelps and Patricia (Adam) Holczman, both of Traverse City, and Cindy (Rick) Wight, of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; and sister, Connie Bennetts.
Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at the Cherryland VFW Post #2780 under the auspices of the VFW Post Honor Guard.
