WILLIAMSBURG — Juliana Nikischer, mother, craftswoman, musician and artist, died peacefully Dec. 17, 2013, at Hope Village in Williamsburg.
She was born on Jan. 25, 1916, in Whitewood, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Hungarian immigrants, Adam and Victoria Sharkany. Juliana and her mother, Victoria, and siblings, John, Frank, Vicky, Helen and Anne, moved to Detroit in 1922.
She married her husband of 70 years, William F. Nikischer, in Detroit in 1936. Together they moved to Blue Lake after his retirement in 1972, where they lived until moving to Traverse City in 2002. He preceded her in death.
Surviving Juliana are her children, William (Joan) Nikischer Jr. and Judith (Dave); her grandchildren, Craig (Sue) Nikischer and Jill (Toby) Candler; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Zackary, Owen Nikischer and Asa Chandler.
Juliana will be greatly missed by family and friends. She was a happy, friendly lady who loved animals and plants as well as lunch with friends at Hope Village.
Juliana and her family thank the wonderful staff at Hope Village and Munson Hospice for their caring, compassion and dedication.
