---- — KALKASKA — Charles “Chuck” Eichenberg, age 76, passed away at his home in the arms of his loving family on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013. He was born on Jan. 4, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Raymond and Lucille Marie (Sheldon) Eichenberg.

Chuck served his country as member of the United States Navy from 1954 to 1962 during the Korean War.

He married Rosemary J. Poling on Sept. 14, 1979, in Toledo. Shortly after they married Chuck and Rosemary moved to Kalkaska to make their home.

He had worked for Craft House Corporation for 42 years when he retired in 1998. After retiring he owned and operated Chuck’s Handyman Service in Kalkaska.

Chuck enjoyed building, gardening, bird feeding, bird watching and helping others.

Chuck is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Rosemary; his loving children, Charles Eichenberg, of Sturgis, Julie Friend, of Orland, Ind., Cindy (Jim) Fowler, of Bronson, Kelli (Eric) Huffman, of Toledo, Ohio, Jason (Valerie) Eichenberg, of Perrysburg, Ohio, Sally (Tim) Woodin, of Howell, and Kim (Todd) Stephens, of Kalkaska; his dear sister, Betty (Richard) Thompson, of Mancelona; his sister-in-law, Lucy Eichenberg, of Toledo, Ohio; his 20 cherished grandchildren; and his six precious great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Eichenberg.

Visitation for Chuck will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Wolfe-O’Neill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Friday, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Kim Hough of the Garfield Country Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.

One of his favorite ways to serve others was to play Santa in the Kalkaska Christmas Parade. Because of this Chuck’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Christmas in Kalkaska, PO Box 697, Kalkaska, MI 49646.
