SUTTONS BAY — Robert Joseph Zeffero, age 83, of Suttons Bay, formerly of Fenton, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013.
Robert was born April 15, 1930, in Flint, the son of Joseph and Mollie (Fehrenbach) Zeffero.
He was a graduate of Traverse City High School, received his bachelor’s degree from Ferris State College and his master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Robert married Jeanine Malo on Sept. 7, 1953, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 26, 2013.
He retired in 1978 as a teacher and coach from Fenton High School and was the inventor of the plastic pick-up truck bedliner.
Robert was a beautiful man who gave so much to so many.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, son and brother. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Surviving are children, Paula Crelley, Leeanne Zeffero, Corine Zeffero, Robert (Theresa) Zeffero, Amy (Rick) Corcoran and Gregory (Amanda) Zeffero; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Mackey; and cousin, Bill Casier.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Canfield; and son-in-law, Floyd Crelley.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and at church Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass.
