ELK RAPIDS — Joseph A. Canavan, 36, of Elk Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born Oct. 14, 1977, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Dennis P. Canavan and Christine Schuler.
Joe lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed working on, rebuilding and driving fast cars and trucks. He was a proud and active member of the Fleetwood Truckers SoCal, a lowrider truck club.
Joe had many friends with whom he spent many hours socializing and enjoying their company.
Surviving Joe are his parents, Dennis Canavan, of Sun City, Calif., and Chris (Adam) Schuler, of Elk Rapids. He is also survived by his sister, Rachel (Jeff) Miller and their children, Bellany, Natalia and Jason, all of Elk Rapids; and brother, John (Dyana) Canavan and their children, Michael and Joshua, all of Stevenson, Wash. He also leaves behind an unborn child due in May.
Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents and his uncle, Michael Miller.
A memorial service will be held today, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids, with the Rev. Dr. Andrew Martinez officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service.
