WILLIAMSBURG — Doris M. Waggoner, 85, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Traverse Manor. She was born June 18, 1928, in Pinconning, to Stephan and Margaret (Allor) Shukait.
On July 31, 1948, Doris married the late Ralph Waggoner. In 1959 they moved north from Lincoln Park and operated Pine Haven Resort in Williamsburg. In 1968 they moved to Midland and operated Midland Painting Company until 1978 when they retired back to Williamsburg.
Doris enjoyed collecting post cards, bird watching, the casino, bingo and playing cards.
She was a previous board member of the Elk Skegemog Lakes Association.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Rod) Gober, of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Brent, Jeremy and Michael Gorske; step grandchildren, Chris and Lisa Gober; great-grandson, Gavin Gorske; two sisters, Shirley Trudell and Teresa (Marvin) Ropert; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nagy and Muriel Masley.
Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband in 2010; son, Gary Waggoner; and sister, Barbara Ricker.
The family would like to thank the staff at both Birchwood Tendercare Nursing Home and Traverse Manor for the great care they gave Doris.
Also, to the “Angels” from Hospice of Michigan, thank you for your support and compassion.
A visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.
A funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, also at the funeral home, at 1 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place in the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids.
Memorial contributions in Doris’ name may be directed to the Skegemog Wildlife Area through the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, 3860 N. Long Lake Road, Traverse City, MI 49684.
