Dorothy M. Lark

GRAWN — Dorothy M. Lark, 98 of Grawn, peacefully entered eternal life on Nov. 11, 2012 at The Grand Traverse Pavilions. She was surrounded by her children at the time of her passing.

Dorothy was born Sept. 22, 1914 to Eugene and Marie (Halter) Steiner of Detroit. She was the second of seven children: Ruth, Gerard, Mary Ann, Marjorie, John and Bill. She graduated from St. Theresa's School in Detroit in 1934. On June 18, 1936 she married the love of her life, Charles R. Lark Jr. They shared 59 years of marriage before his death in 1995.

Dorothy and Charlie began their life together in the Detroit area. In 1950, they moved their family to Elk Rapids where they were actively involved in the community. Dorothy was a member of many organizations, at times holding offices: Sacred Heart Catholic Church's Altar Society (secretary); the Elk Rapids Garden Club (president); the Rotary Ann's (vice-president); and a Girl Scout Brownie troop leader. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and sewing. The family then spent from 1966-1974 in Traverse City. Finally, in 1974 they made their final move to Grawn. Dorothy's greatest pride was her role as a devoted wife, a loving mother of seven.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charlie, two sisters, two brothers, and a great-grandson.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Charlene Lark, Dorothy Lark, Marilyn (Larry) Fleis, Marge (Tom) Nink, Rose-Marie (Steve) Canfield and her sons Chuck (Patti) Lark and Rick (Sherri) Lark; also, her 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Other special people in her life were Cass Jurkowski, Sherry Lark and Lihn Moran; along with a multitude of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Covell's in Kingsley on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 6-8 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's-Hannah Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, next to the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Dorothy's honor to St. Mary-Hannah School and/or Church. Offering a Mass of Intention would also be appreciated.

The family is being served by Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley, Mich.
