TRAVERSE CITY — Dewey Beckwith, 66, lifelong resident of Traverse City, passed away while surrounded by family Feb. 21, 2014, at Munson Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dewey was born on Oct. 23, 1947, in Traverse City, to the late William Donald and Evelyn (Zionkowski) Beckwith.
Dewey attended St. Francis High School.
He worked for Trilon before starting with Munson in the security department. Dewey was always there to brighten his co-workers’ day with a joke or two.
He will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and amazing memory. He was the type of brother, friend and person that if you needed something, he would be there to help you without asking for any thing in return. Dewey was a huge fan of the Detroit Tigers and enjoyed attending games in person whenever possible.
Dewey is survived by his brother, Richard (Cindy); sisters, Patricia (Dennis) Johnson and Marcia King; children, Michael and Carmon; and many other family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in memory of Dewey may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
