TRAVERSE CITY — Lynn Marie Nicolen ascended into Heaven on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, after a short illness. She was born June 23, 1947, in Paw Paw, into a Michigan State Police family.
Graduating from a high school in Mason in 1965, Lynne attended NMC in an administrative program.
She then worked for Meach Cleaners and Michigan Bell Telephone Co. for several years. She retired, after 33 years, from the mental health department, where she worked in finance. When the Traverse City State Hospital closed its doors she was at Newberry, where she worked for a few years before being transferred to Mt. Pleasant until retiring in November 2002.
Lynne loved life. She enjoyed being out in nature, whether it was hunting and fishing or being a rock hound. She also enjoyed traveling, genealogy, reading, as well as knitting, tatting and crocheting. There was never a dull moment for Lynne. She loved people and had too many friends to name.
Lynne was preceded in death by both parents, Richard Lavon Nicolen and Helen Rose (Allers) Nicolen; and a half brother, Ronald R. Nicolen.
She is survived by a half brother, Donald R. Nicolen, of Montpelier, Ohio; a brother, Richard J. Nicolen, of Traverse City; nieces, Tamara Jean (Kevin) Sylvester and Tanya Jean (Curt) Young; great-nieces and nephews, Madison and Conner Sylvester and Quinton and Breitlin Young; dear, old friends, Anne Griner, Linda Sparling-Beebe-Grankowski and Joanne Bostwick; and cousin, Charlene Allers-Kevitch.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Munson Medical Center, Bortz Health Care and Munson Hospice and their “angelic” staffs who comforted and cared for her during her illness.
A celebration of life for Lynne will be planned for a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
