TRAVERSE CITY — Shirley Ann Egeler, 78, of Traverse City, passed away on Feb. 14, 2014, at her home. She passed away seven years to the day after her beloved brother and best friend, Leslie Petroskey. Shirley was born on Dec. 30, 1935, in Traverse City to the late John and Genevieve (LaCross) Petroskey.
Shirley was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, especially cooking and providing food for them. She had a deep faith and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Patricia Egeler, Cheryl Hall, Jenny Stevenson, Geri (Johnny) L McQuigg; sons, Danny (Peggy) Egeler, Douglas (Sandra) Egeler, Timothy Egeler; a sister, Jacqueline Rodebaugh; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Flees; five brothers; and three sisters.
A memorial Mass honoring Shirley will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, at St. Francis Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union St. Rev. Fr. Polycarp Ablarawa will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Thursday from noon until the time of Mass. Shirley’s family will pray the rosary on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. prior to Mass.
