TRAVERSE CITY — Peter John Batsakis, 61, known to family and friends as John, passed away unexpectedly in Florida on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014. John was born on Oct. 25, 1952, in Traverse City, the son of Peter G. and Francis (Collins) Batsakis.
John owned and operated the U&I Lounge in Traverse City for 15 years before moving to Yalaha, Fla., in 2010 to enjoy the warm weather and sunshine.
In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, spending time with family and friends, riding his motorcycle, and was an active member in the Greek Orthodox Church.
John was preceded in death by his father, Peter G. Batsakis.
John is survived by his sons, Nick (Lyndsay) Batsakis and Alex Batsakis, of Traverse City; his mother, Francis Batsakis; granddaughter, Ella; and his brother, Jim (Ellen) Batsakis, all of Traverse City. He is also survived by his beloved girlfriend, Maria Bready and her children, Owen and Melissa, of Yalaha, Fla.; and many aunts, cousins and nephews.
A celebration of John’s life will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Grace Episcopal Church. Fr. Ciprian Streza will lead the service of remembrance. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of John may be directed to the family in order to help with the cost of services and/or to the Archangel Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church building fund.
