TRAVERSE CITY — Robert “Bob” E. Clark, 99, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Orchard Creek Skilled Nursing Home. Bob was born on May 23, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Emerson and Mae (Merjus) Clark.
He married his wife of 65 years, Isabel Smith, on June 6, 1944, in Hartford, Ohio. She preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 2009.
Bob had been employed as a mechanical engineer with Chrysler Motor Company for 41 years, retiring in 1979.
Over the years Bob volunteered at the Cranbrook school’s museum, helping create and repair many exhibits.
He had a passion for gardening and was an organic gardener. He was able to graft trees; through this ability he was able to grow many wonderful fruit trees.
Spending time with his family was his greatest joy, whether it be time at home or countless camping trips with grandchildren.
When asked, “How are you doing?” Bob would answer, “First rate.”
Bob is survived by two daughters and a son, Karen Clark, Nancy (Phil) Krempely and James (Sandi) Clark; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Rene (Thomas) Brodowski and their children, Tristan and Elaine; Greyson (Yulin) Chen-Landvoy and their children, Leo and Ari; Tiffany (Brian) Profitt, with twins on the way; Lindsay Krempley, Wyatt Krempley, Shannon Clark and Brian Clark. Also surviving is a sister, Virginia Menninger.
Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
