TRAVERSE CITY — Joseph Raymond Send, 93, of Traverse City, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
Joseph was born on May 20, 1920, in Traverse City, the son of Lawrence and Anna (Flees) Send. He was raised on the farm in Bayshore and attended Charlevoix High School.
In 1937 he moved back to Traverse City, where he started his 52-year career with the Park Place Hotel. He started as a dishwasher, worked his way up and finally retired as their chef.
In 1945 Joseph married the late Roselean Weber and raised three sons. In 1973 he was wed to Beatrice Sheldon, who passed away in 2009.
Joseph was a very supportive and loving father who worked a split shift at the Park Place so he could spend the afternoons with his family. He always put the needs of others before his own.
Joseph enjoyed playing golf, bowling and shooting pool. He also enjoyed sharing his love of cooking, never allowing anyone to leave hungry.
On July 22, 2009, Joseph moved into Tendercare and quickly became known as someone with a great attitude and gentle demeanor.
Joseph is survived by his sons, Joseph, Louis and Gerald (Joan Gifford) Send; grandchildren, Josh, Jeremy, Eric (Nancy), Ann (Jason), Elizabeth (Stephen), Mary (Isaac), Kay (Luke) and Mark; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beatrice; and sister, Irene Plamondon.
