ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — James W. Nichols, age 86, of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away peacefully at Hernando Pasco Hospice in Dade City on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
For the past nine years, Jim was married to Jean Nichols of Zephyrhills, where they both enjoyed playing tennis, kayaking, camping, and traveling throughout the United States.
Born in 1926 and raised in the Detroit area, Jim served in the Navy during World War II, afterwards earning a degree in education from Michigan State University. Jim married Ellen Nichols of Newaygo and raised four children, settling in Traverse City, where he was employed with the Social Security Administration. He later married Charlotte Shea of Traverse City. After retiring, Jim moved to Florida for the remainder of his life.
Jim is survived by his wife Jean; his four children, Gail, Steve, Kirk, and Rebecca; grandchildren, Nami, Tim, David, Michael, Chelsie, Jessica, Seth, Elijah, Kelsey, and Deward; and Jean’s children, Rick, Missy, and Cheri.
Preceding Jim in death was a granddaughter, Heather.
