---- — GRAND BLANC — Oretha Valena (Harper-Ciliax) Ham, 87, of Grand Blanc, formerly of Honor, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Holly Convalescent Center.
Oretha was born in Flint on Feb. 19, 1926, the daughter of the late Van and wife, Eva Harper.
Surviving are children, Sharon DesJardin, Linda and husband, Edward Sherwood, and Pamela Ciliax; five grandchildren, Bryan (Debbie) McIntyre, Melissa Forbes, Jennifer McIntyre, Michelle (Paul) Wright and Jarrod (Teresa) Sherwood; 12 great-grandchildren, Jessica (Steve), Alexandra, Erik, Madeline, Brittany (David), Stephanie (Brandon), Mark, Samantha, Joey, Dustin, Jaylyn and Marshall; four great-great-grandchildren, Emma, Samuel, Gunnor and Gage; sister, Margaret Porter, of Grand Rapids; and sisters-in-law, Laura Kett and Rose Harper, both of Florida.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Kett and Van L. Harper; and her three grandsons, Kenneth, Jason and Gary DesJardin.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Pastor Mark Lasley will officiate. A memorial visitation will take place at noon Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Per Oretha’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holly Convalescent Center or McLaren Hospice.
