TRAVERSE CITY — Henry "Hank" J. Bruggeman, 81, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Tendercare of Leelanau, surrounded by his loving family.
Hank was born on April 24, 1931, in Detroit, the son of Johannes and Geertruda (Kloot) Bruggeman. In 1951 in Detroit, he married Nancy R. Burke, who survives.
As a young man, Hank was proud to have served our nation in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Hank enjoyed sports; he enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. He was a big University of Michigan fan and in high school was an all-star in football, basketball and baseball. Hank continued his love of baseball by playing on several softball teams and volunteering for the Traverse City Beach Bums.
In his retirement he enjoyed fishing any time he could get out on the lake. One of Hank's all-time favorite pastimes was listening to music; he loved to sing and was the inspiration for, and active member of, the TenderChoir at Tendercare of Leelanau.
Hank's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Tendercare of Leelanau. Your love and kindness has been greatly appreciated during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Michigan for their gentle guidance and loving arms.
"Papa's liefde voor ons was onvoorwaardelijk."
