KALKASKA — Ann Elizabeth Chalker, 93, of Kalkaska, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.
She was born on June 29, 1919, in Barry County, the daughter of the late Jacob and Jessie (Wait) Niess. Ann married Edwin Chalker in Kalamazoo on Nov. 12, 1942.
She attended college at Western Michigan University.
Ann taught school in Ionia and Gaylord while Ed was enlisted in World War II. When Ed returned in 1946 together they moved to Kalkaska. Ann worked for the Selective Service and Agriculture Stabilization in Kalkaska County until retiring in 1980.
Ann was a member of the Peoples Church and the Acadamea Club.
Surviving Ann are her daughters, Charlene (Jerry Brinkert) Chalker Brinkert, of Allegan, and Dawn (Peter Solengerger) Chalker, of Ypsilanti; grandchildren, Briana Solengerger Chalker and Benjamin Chalker Brinkert; and her sister, Arvonne Jakobsen, of Ionia.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; and her brother, Robert Niess.
Visitation will be today, Oct. 28, from 4 until 8 p.m., at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Peoples Church, with Dr. Steve Packer officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
