BENZONIA — Betty Jane Henry, 91, of Benzonia, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at The Maples in Frankfort. She was born April 24, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Glenn and Lois (Bassett) Mapes.
Betty was a graduate of Benzonia High School and then attended Michigan State University.
She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Benzonia.
Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed working in her garden and going for walks. Most of all, Betty loved being with her family.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Patty (Mel) Adams, of Honor, and Kathy Henry, of Traverse City; her son, Richard (Noreen) Henry, of Benzonia; nine grandchildren, Michael McCarty, Matthew (Paula) Lefler, Stacy (Jessica) Henry, Christine McCarty, Charles Henry, Cassandra Henry, Troy (Michelle) Adams, Daniel (Sarah) Adams and Eric (Erika) Adams; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one niece, Linda (Rich) Glaz.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Phillip Arthur Henry in 2001; her brother, Glenn Mapes in 1981; and two nephews, Glenn Mapes III and Gary Mapes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C., in Benzonia, with the Rev. Daniel E. Furman officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
