KALAMAZOO — Allan Alfred Strauss, age 80, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Traverse City, passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2012. He was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Mancelona, to David and Margaret (Sutter) Strauss.
Allan served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Once Allan returned from service he worked as a car transporter for several dealerships, but his greatest joy was being a caretaker to his parents until their passing.
Allan was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He enjoyed shuffle board and playing cards.
Allan is survived by his children, Allen and Nanette Strauss; siblings, Mary Lund, of Muskegon, Robert (Millie) Strauss, of New Hampshire, Elizabeth Ruoff, of Traverse City, Eileen (Joe) Edmonds, of Traverse City, Julie (Fred) Dreves, of Acme, David (Dollie) Strauss, of Wisconsin, and Larry (Karen) Strauss, of Lansing; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Allan was preceded in death by nephews, Julian Gawron Jr. and Arthur James Gawron; brothers-in-law, Julian Gawron Sr., Robert Lund, Perry Nemec and Conrad Ruoff.
A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. Burial with military honors will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in Allan's name may be directed to the church or your local VFW.
