Betty Jane (Russell) Curtis, of Traverse City, died peacefully on Oct. 9, 2012, at Treasured Times, surrounded by family. She was born on Nov. 16, 1935, in Pontiac, to Frank Emil Hoopfer and Veronica Marie DuFresne.
She gave 30 years of service to Michigan Bell Telephone Company, where she retired from in 1984.
After retirement she spent various winters in Florida and Texas. She loved to travel and was able to visit Hawaii, Rome, Italy, the Bahamas, the Hoover Dam, California and Maine.
She was a huge country music fan, loved to polka, play golf, enjoyed bowling and the racing careers of her nephews and former husband.
Betty was born with a big heart and will be missed by all with whom she came in contact.
She is survived by daughter, Barbara Price; mother, Veronica Hoopfer; brothers, Larry Hoopfer and Robert (Judy) Hoopfer; sisters, Dorothy Nickerson, Mary (Vern) Boals and Barbara (Rod) Redman; brother, Pete Hoopfer; former husband, Larry Price; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved cat, Sammy.
She was preceded in death by brother, Richard; daughter, Vicki; father; and grandparents.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 12, from noon to 1 p.m. at Saint Francis Church in Traverse City, followed by a funeral Mass at 1 p.m., at Saint Francis Church, with a luncheon to follow. She will be cremated, and burial will take place on Nov. 16, 2012, in Saint Mary's Cemetery of Lake Leelanau.
