TRAVERSE CITY — Dorothy McLain Pelton, 101, of Traverse City, formerly of Elk Rapids, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 8, 2012, at Country Pleasures Assisted Living.
Born March 2, 1911, in South Milton Township, Antrim County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Laura (Easley) McLain. On Oct. 21, 1933, in Elk Rapids, she married Ernest M. Pelton, who preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1996.
While living in the Elk Rapids area she worked as a bookkeeper for Zupin Oil Company.
She was also a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Marialyce Pelton, of Elk Rapids, and Lorna (Joe) Chile, of Williamsburg; two grandsons, Matt (Tammy) Chile, of Traverse City, and Scott (Michelle) Chile, of Texas; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; sisters, Gena Aldridge, Alice Clark and Helen (Earl) Hanley; special friends, Dave and Marcia Parker; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; one great-grandson; brothers, William and Albert McLain; and sisters, Mary Haller, Louise McLain and Betty Cole.
Dorothy will be remembered privately by her family.
