---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Ruth Louise Brakel, 96 a lifelong resident of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Ruth was born into a pioneer family, on Oct. 29, 1916 in Blair Township to the late John and Christina (Faist) Brakel.
Ruth graduated from Traverse City High School in 1934. She worked for Total Petroleum for many years and retired in 1981.
Ruth was faithful to her God and Church. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and The Traverse Bay United Methodist Church. While at Emmanuel she was a devoted treasurer, wonderful Sunday school teacher of the New Horizon class and dedicated annual conference delegate. She especially enjoyed traveling to the Reed City area and visiting her friends at the Hersey United Methodist Church. Family was also very important to Ruth. She cherished the time and memories that she had with them. Ruth will be fondly remembered for her faith, devotion and her beautiful smile.
Surviving Ruth are her many cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jackson and the Dogwood staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions for all their support and love throughout the years.
Funeral services will be held for Ruth at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 at the Traverse Bay United Methodist Church with a visitation held one hour prior. Pastor Jane Lippert will serve as officient.
